Stair Chair Concept
Elevate
A more dignified stair chair that adapts to both the user’s ever changing needs and their home layout. Designed for easy, adaptable installation.
Modeled in Rhino. Rendered in Blender.

The Problem
Fall prevention is the most frequently discussed concern among both the aging population and experts.
Older adults struggle with stairs but feel that stair chairs are undignified.
Healthcare professionals report that current mobility tools are outdated and insufficient.
Addressing these issues offers the greatest potential to support independence in the aging population.

80%
Of patients who have fallen down stairs suffer a traumatic brain injury.
- Pub Med Central (2022)
Falls also lead to:

Success Criteria
1. Hazard Prevention
2. Adaptable to User
3. Adaptable to Home
4. Focus on Dignified Design
5. Reliable and Intuitive
This device should mean fewer hospital visits, fewer lost years of independence, and more moments lived with ease.

Insights:
Prevention devices are usually bought post-fall
Devices are designed for performance, not emotional acceptance
Current products don’t adapt to changes in user’s needs
